Ford and Fiat vehicle care without the inconvenience

Checklist for good vehicle care

Looking after your Ford or Fiat and keeping it well maintained is essential to your vehicle having a long and happy life, just like you.

Whilst vehicle servicing and some repairs cannot be avoided as your vehicle ages and goes through everyday wear and tear, taking good care of your vehicle and keeping it well maintained minimises problems, repairs and the inconvenience that comes with those unexpected moments. No one wants their Ford or Fiat to be an inconvenience. They want to make the most of their vehicle by looking after it, so that it looks after them.

We all want a reliable vehicle to get us to work, take the kids to school and of course those shopping trips and days out. We don’t want to be worrying.

What does good vehicle care look like?

Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations to keep your vehicle well maintained. All the information is covered in your vehicle handbook and if you can’t find the handbook call your local Ford or Fiat dealership, try the manufacturer’s customer services or there’s most likely to be a copy on Amazon or eBay. If making a quick phone call to us to check works for you call: 0161 794 9994 and we’ll always try our best to help.

Here’s our checklist to make sure you know what good vehicle care looks like:

  • Service your vehicle regularly – the best guarantee for a reliable vehicle
  • Change oil regularly for good lubrication which reduces the amount of heat produced by the engine
  • Keep an eye on your tyres for wear and tear as well as having the correct air pressure. This helps extend the life of your tyres, improves vehicle safety, and supports fuel efficiency
  • Check your battery. If your vehicle struggles to start, dashboard lights come on and hot or cold weather effects the vehicle, it could be your battery. You don’t want your battery to leave you stranded somewhere
  • Replace worn brake pads. As they wear thin, they become less effective and can cause a multitude of problems as well as safety issues
  • Replace the air filter. Dirty or damaged filters reduce engine air flow which can pollute spark plugs, in turn this impacts the engine
  • Check vehicle hoses and belts to keep your vehicle running safely and efficiently, otherwise you could end up with an overheated engine, loss of power steering or electrical failures
  • Replace old spark plugs to save you from costly repairs. Old spark plugs can misfire and put stress on the vehicle’s catalytic converter (the engine’s exhaust cleaner).

We know this checklist will give you a happy and reliable vehicle. And, as it’s winter time here’s some additional tips to help keep your vehicle running well throughout the colder months, especially in and around Manchester. You know it’s always colder up North.

Winter vehicle tips:

  1. Top up your engine coolant with antifreeze
  2. Clean your lights
  3. Wash your windscreen and wipers
  4. Prepare for longer journeys
  5. Carry a winter vehicle kit

And, if you haven’t already booked a winter service for your Ford or Fiat vehicle. Getting this done every year just before the colder months hit will keep your vehicle as dependable as ever.
